We’re delighted to share that our dream of creating a
healthy food production facility has come to fruition. After 18 months of
research and development, Wise Bites has launched a shiny new factory in
Richmond, B.C., that’s free of all traces of gluten, peanuts, tree
nuts, dairy, eggs and soy, as well as fish and shellfish.
Around a year and a half ago we began experimenting with lowering the sugar and fat from some classic family favourites like the chocolate chip cookie. It seemed we were onto something. The treats coming out of our kitchen were delicious, but didn’t carry the heavy caloric penalty of their sugary originals.
But we weren’t done. We decided to make our baked goods safe and healthy for absolutely everyone, including those who suffer from Celiac disease and other difficult food allergies and intolerances. We’d noticed that while there’s been an increase in gluten-free products on the market, these and many of the other allergy-friendly foods available lack nutritional merit. Many are high in sugar and fat and offer little more than empty calories.
So our quest to find gluten-free flour began, and we soon learned that Canadian-grown quinoa flour is where it’s at. This unique grain offers not only the wheat-free alternative people with food allergies or sensitivities need, but also a fantastic source of protein, iron and fibre. And that’s something each of us dearly needs.
